Carteret General Hospital Receives ACR Accreditation
March 2004
Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, NC has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in MRI as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
ACR Accreditation programs provide a high level of confidence for patients, referring physicians and managed care organizations that only the highest quality care is being provided by accredited facilities. The ACR certificates of accreditation give assurance that staff and equipment have passed the ACR’s rigorous evaluation. Cigna, Blue Cross/BlueShield, Aetna/US Healthcare, Oxford Health Plans, United Healthcare, and Medicare all recognize the value of ACR accreditation programs.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of its practice. Evaluations of Carteret General Hospital’s MRI were conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assessed the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors reported their finding to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provided Carteret General Hospital with a comprehensive report and accreditation. Carteret General Hospital is one of thirty-three facilities accredited for MRI in North Carolina.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and medical physicists with programs for focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
Carteret General Hospital is a 135-bed hospital that provides optimal quality, cost effective services to all citizens and visitors of Carteret County. In 2005, over 3600 MRI studies were conducted at Carteret General. Receiving ACR accreditation is just one example of how Carteret General is striving to provide excellent care for all of our patients. The ACR accreditation process is rigorous with only 30% of the facilities applying for accreditation succeeding on the first try. Carteret General is proud to be accredited after one request.
