Laboratory

The Carteret General Hospital Laboratory is a full service Joint Commission accredited hospital laboratory. In order to provide accurate and timely diagnostic test results to our many area clinicians and ever-growing community, we have state-of-the-art instrumentation to provide quick turn-around-time for the expanded Emergency Department, Raab Oncology Clinic and the 135-bed facility. The pathology department includes a full histology, cytology and immunochemistry diagnostic service.

The Transfusion Medicine department provides blood and blood components furnished by the Mid-Atlantic region of the American Red Cross, performing extensive testing to ensure a safe blood supply.

With the increase in DNA and genetics focus in healthcare, the laboratory contracts with LabCorp, Specialty in California, Raleigh State Lab, and the AFIP, to continue to offer testing results beyond our hospital menu. We work directly with the Medical Staff to find test that are needed for their patients, and work in conjunction with the community to provide low cost and/or free screening tests at health fairs and hospital clinics.

Out patients needing laboratory work, whether local or a visitor to the area, will be served by qualified phlebotomists, office staff, and technologists.
